NTL are to make a "major" announcement regarding new channels within the next fortnight. I'll post exact details as soon as I get them.

Thanks for that, if it will take two weeks for the announcement, how long will it take for the channels to be added?

Damn you for putting in "new" in there, coz I was going to be all witty and say something like "NTL to transmit channels without 3-second interruptions every few minutes" .. not that would be a major announcement.

Well I'd say they are FX and ITV2 going on a customer care email in another thread. A little late to be getting ITV2 with XFactor and Jungle over, better late then never though.

A few more music channels are likely. Chart Show TV have taken over the runing of Skys music channels so we might get the CSTV channels. Would prefer VH2 to be added.

I have never understood how NTL can get ITV channels & Ch4 whereas SKy viewers ( I am one) can never get near ITV or Ch4. I do have NTL basic though, anyone think they might put ITV2 out on the basic package like they did Setanta Sports??

Something got to do with the fact it is relayed on cable and broadcast on Sky, technically UTV and Channel 4 should not be avaiable in the Rupublic at all, it's just a load of crap.

About ITV2, I don't think it will be on basic cable, as they are running out of space, 1 channel on analouge is 6-8 that could be transmitted on digital.

Mainly for historical reasons, Cable has existed in Ireland for over 30 years, well before the concept of paying royalties for such a service existed.

I've heard NTL will be launching a new pay per view channel in about a week, called the Origami channel.

I'm told around 25 new radio stations have been added in Galway. Good lord, tell me that's not their major announcement.

Does anyone really expect an announcement any time soon? This is NTL we're talking about here!

Don't hold your breath. It'll be another healthy dose of the usual cr@p that you'll flick over to for about 10 seconds and never watch again. Despite having all those channels to watch, I rarely stray out of the mainstream group of UK/Irish channels, but appreciate the superior picture quality that digital offers me.

Personally what I would like to see is a selection of foreign TV stations. I used to live in the Netherlands where I could get channels from Germany, Belgium, France and the UK. It was often interesting to see what other countries' take was on certain world events, and also to see the often very differing ideas of what was actually "news". We've got TV5, now how about some more?

    *BUMP*

Well it's way over two weeks after the first post ... anybody heard anything yet? No, I didn't think so!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭patrickmooney

Yeah I think the only announcment coming out of NTL has been upcoming price changes only. Christmas would have been the perfect time to launch new channels.

Oh I did read today that Film4 is free on christmas day, I wonder if they remember to un-scramble it for us that day!?

Ireland's ntl digital Ramps Up Disney Offerings

LONDON, December 22: Walt Disney Television International has expanded its carriage deal with ntl Ireland, giving subscribers of the digital package access to Playhouse Disney, Toon Disney and Disney Channel +1 in addition to Disney Channel, effective immediately.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,072 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

Obviously that only affects those who get Disney in the first place (what used to be called dual movie subscribers).
