Anyone seen these media PC's? I know HP have one and I really like the idea.
In fact I've had the same idea myself for years just not the tech to pull it off.

Is there a shop anywhere with a demo?
    Any good reviews?

The first ones were terrible, in alsmost every way. They may have improved since, but you're much better off with a real PC modified a bit.

    any sugesstions how?

I quite like the idea of using the TV to play games surf the net.
I also really love the notion of using the HD to record live TV like SKY plus.
I ain't got no clue how thems things work( in my best redneck accent)

    What you're looking for is:

    http://www.byopvr.com and http://www.mythtv.org/

    Both great sites.

I'm building one myself next weekend (very excited about this).

    Basically what you need is:
    1 computer
    1 tv card
    1 OS
    1 PVR software
    :)

My machine is spec'd like this:
    Asus Pundit barebones system
    2GHz Celeron
    256MB Ram
    wireless card (for internet access)
Hauppauge PVR-350 TV card (hardware mpeg2 encode / decode).
160GB HDD (around 70 hours record time at dvd quality)
    dvd rom drive

I'll be running Linux with MythTV on it. Check out these screenshots. It'll run mame, snes emulators, play music, record tv, allows pause of live tv, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

the last hp one i sold was a sweet machine, every port you could ever want, and had a removeable harddrive that sloted into the case, or you could pull it out by the handles, was pricey, but it had a x600, 320 gigs, 1g ram, and as i said, every port imaginable.

    HP 1070, 1090, 1170, 1190 are the numbers. Packard Bell 2101 and 2301.

They come with tv tuners and remote controls, Integrated wireless lan, wireless keyboard/mouse, removeable HDD bays etc etc.

They're all in PC World in blanch if u want a demo. The 1070 is hooked up to a 32" LCD samsung, and a 5.1 logitech setup, yours for just €2999

Unless you have a REALLY good TV or set your text size very big surfing the net on your TV may not be too good. Tv's cannot really display text and small details from Pc outputs too well.

I used the TV out from my Pc to watch movies on but reading text was very difficult.
