How musch is it to start up woth Formula Vee? I mean, like to buy the chassis, engine, gear etc....A rough idea. If we're talking of over 3ish grand forget it.

    My startup costs were...

    3500 for the car
200 for a some setup work and service
850 on the racing gear, helmet nomex suit etc
    200 on a tow hitch
License, clubs etc another 100 spondoolies..

In real terms, including time off work and initial test sessions the best part of 5k. Money very well spent as it is the single most enjoyable thing I have EVER done...

    Brian.

So what do the cars do, about 25mpg smile.gif only messing. What are they, 1.6l? What kind of speed are you talking about the straight in Mondello and also can you buy them second hand, well, cheaper? smile.gif

Well got the towhook anyway, so I've saved meself 200 quid.

Is it true that they'll only except fully licensed drivers in the Mondello Racing school? Just wondering. But just in case youre wondering I got me full license when I was 17.

Yep 1.6l engines, with a little room for improvement - done by a couple of engine builders - tho some of the guys look after their own engines. Acceleration is 0-60 in 4ish seconds, and a top speed of 130ish mph. In mondello, coming into the Parabolica I reckon youre doing well over the 100mph but I dont have a speedo yet so its just a guess.

You can get cheaper cars alright, but be prepared for a lot of work to bring it upto spec.

In the racing school all you have to be is 'Competant' with a manual gearbox. You got to have a full license for your racing license tho...

to race in the phoenix park you need your full licence as its classed as a public road smile.gif
you only need a provisional licence to get your racing licence.

as for the engines they are 1.6 VW beetle engines! yeah there mad ! guy up north Doherthy takes them apart cleans them up and tunes them till there the dogs ******.
