Sorry for starting another thread, but the other one was closed thanks to someone dealing

Anyway, for activating the new free to view cards - is it just digibox version, digibox seriel number and the card number you need when you phone up.

Cards are in the post, but I want to phone through the activation while I'm in work rather than waste time sat watching the box....

I wish, but unfortunately no one knows how to block the numbers on outgoing calls here - I did ask :D

Sorry for the even more basic question but as I'm in the same boat as Macy (getting card from SKY direct), where do I find the info required for when I call them to get it activated?

On the bottom of the box? Thx.

When I got my card activated I was told to read the details off the screen after pressing...

    Services
    4 System Setup
    5 System Details

Hiya, I have a sky digibox and want to cancel my sub to sky ASAP. (Am fecking sick of paying for repeats!... Isn’t everyone!), and want to use my digibox for the FTV channels... all the BBCs, ITVs, and channel 4 and 5 (I would use a Normal Terrestrial aerial but the signal in my area in Navan is very bad). I know that I must get my hands on one of the £20 stg FTV cards from sky and have a relative in London, who can order it for me, but will sky want to know my sky digibox serial number and other info, and will they cop that it’s an Irish box that I have? or will is be as easy as my relative giving their address and getting the cards sent straight out to them so that they can post it to me? Also, these SKY FTV cards... do they have an expiry date, or does it work forever? Thanks in advance for any info that you can give me on this.... Cheers, Access in Navan. :)

The FTV card should work in your decoder no problem, i've heard of plenty of irish people getting them in the past so you should be safe.

i know it will work, as a lot of people on this forum will confirm... but what about the expiry and ordering problems?

Macy put 141 before the number you are ringing that hides your number. I rang this number and got through no problem. 141004487085000033

There will be a number on the back of your card when you get it. It should be a 087 number. You have to leave the 0 off and ring 141004487 and the rest of the number. Regarding what they ask you just bring the the numbers of the box with you in to work.As i said to you before the card is not married to box. So why they would need the serial number of your sky box puzzels me. Would of thought the card number was only number needed.
The 141 doesn't actually work from the exchange at work - tried phoning my mobile. On the serial number of the box, although once activated they work on any box, I was under the impression you needed the serial number of the box for the initial activation. Infairness Colm there's a lot of different information flowing about, and I thought yours arrived already activated through the company you brought it from?

Mine did arrive activated but the company i got it from never asked for my serial number. And where did the company get my card from more than likely SKY. I do hope you get sorted out.
A FTV card doesn't have to be married to a particular box, but that doesn't mean that at activation you don't need the serial number of the digibox. I'm just trying to establish what you do and don't need when you call sky....

Maybe my questions are stupid, and given my track record they quite possibly are. :)

Colum: Why what's wrong with your card ? Mine is working fine .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 66 ✭✭intersplat

Ah I see. I couldn't be bothered with all the crap to get one. Took me 5 mins to order and was delivered a couple days later . I didn't have to call Sky . I'm happy enough...

    Where are Colm80's posts gone?

Ok I've read all the last thread and this one as carefully as I can. Sounds great.

Now here's my unanswered questions (thankfully not about activation!):

-Does the UK 'friend' bear any responsibility for this? Like are they respsonsible if Sky were to tighten up this scenario?
-And does the friend have to have a current Sky Digital subcription (this has kinda been asked but don't see a clear answer)?
-Most importantly, does the card take up the same slot as the Digital subscription card? i.e. Apart from losing all the Irish channels on digital do you lose the rest and have to swap?!

    Thanks in advance.

    1. The UK Friend I guess would bear responsibility as he's not using the card as he was supposed to. But Sky would have a problem followign all the FTV cards in circulation.

    2. No, your friend does not need a current Sky Sub.

    3. Yes, both FTV and Sub cards use the same slot, so you need to swap around depending on what you want to watch.

    Hope this helps

That helps although it's bad news thanks byte!

I was hoping this would solve the regular problem of having a Chorus subscription to get ITV and Ch.4. However if you get them at the loss of all Irish channels and about 900 other digitials (many crap but still enough regularly watched) then it's really not that great a deal.

    Boohoo. :(

Card arrived yesterday. Good news is that it says on the letter that the card should activate after 20 minutes. Bad news is that it didn't, so I have to phone anyway....

Please share the 'experience' with us after you have called them and got it set up.

You need the card number, the version number of the digibox (Services --> 4 --> 5), and they'll only activate the card for whoever ordered the card*.

*It was woman who I got to order it, so I suppose that wouldn't necessarily be a problem

Getting a card ordered using a uk licence payer is not a problem, but I only have one digibox that has (and will have for the foreseeable future) an active sky digital ireland subscription.
    - Is it stupid to try and register a ftv card on the same box? (seems to me like a simple database lookup shows the inconsistency and both cards may get cancelled).
    - Is is possible to register it with one digibox's details but use it on another digibox without reregistration/activation? Could I get details of a broken digibox (buy one off ebay or whatever) and use those - would this work. I really dont want two digiboxes above the telly.

I ordered my freesat card at end of last month, contact in UK mailed it on. Have sterling a/c which i kept from when lived there so was able to pay £20 with Switch card. I have a Sky plus UK sub using same contacts add,so it was a breeze. Card a bit stubborn to load 103-105 on epg, Had to ring 3 times. After 24 hrs and 3rd call bingo it came through. ITV ch 4 and five could be seen via add channels but not on epg at first. ITV 2 also now available on FTV card.Talk sport radio not available nor Big Blue. Great now have crystal clear UK channels in kitchen.Have good Irish terrestrial UHF reception so not worth getting Irish sub just for those. Already have €152 licence fee!

just like to thank everyone who put this up cos i've now got crystal clear channels thanks to this up in donegal - couldn't face putting up a higher pole than the 14ft one i've got now for terrestrial signals (got parents who live in uk to send card over)
