What does FTA (PowerVu) mean?

    Hi all,

In "L.J.'s LIVE Football on Satellite" website I found out that the UEFA Cup match I want to watch (Athletic Bilbao-Steaua Bucarest) is on:

    Antena 1 10 E FTA(PowerVu)

Does this mean that I need a card and a box that can take cards? Can I watch it in the FTA receiver I bought in Lidl?

    Thanks!

power VU is a coding system.
You will need a card and special power vu box.
It is possible to liston to it ,but to get picture is impossible without the equipment. It is mainly used by companies
Take a look here a half an hour before the game starts for a possible live link up.

There like s*y boxes. The card is married to the box. Very hard to crack.

I have a powervu box. They have to be authorises over the air directly from "Scientific Atlanta" in the states. Inside the box is a unique ID chip with a TID number stuck on it on a label. On the back of the receiver is a string of numbers.
Problem with these boxes is that theyre usually locked to a contract with the provider eg AFRTS or Antena1 Romania or a cabel operator so even if you had a box SciAtlanta will not authorise the box for another operator.
Or even a new box, you still need permission directly from service provider and fax this to SCIAtlanta who send authorising codes over the air.
Bookies shops use them too. No cards are needed, although there is a card slot that works in same way.
My one is ex DaimlerChrysler Tv, so no hope to have it authorised for anything.
growl.de has a page all about it. BAsically NO LUCK!

Mine is a doorstop for the summer out here. Got it for 20euros in a junksale.
