For some reason, recently i havn't been able to play any dvd's in my computer. its not because i havn't got a dvd player or the right software or anything but it comes up saying that i havn't got a 'dvd decoder' installed on my computer. how can i fix this??
    Thanks,
    Bubba

What operating system are you using?

What DVD player have you installed (they all come with 'a' decoder and it's probably one of a small number of available decoders if you're using winxp)?

If you're not using this specific player to play your discs what software are you using?

Reinstall some DVD software such as Cineplayer, or WinDVD. They will install the decoding filters so you can playback DVD video in your other applications, such as Mediaplayer etc.

My limited understanding is that you need to install powerDVD or winDVD before windows media player or real player can play DVDs. This is because they need the correct codecs (which are part of powerDVD or winDVD) before they can play. Now if only I knew what a codec was....

You usually get either powerDVD or winDVD free with your PC/ DVD drive or even graphics card. If not there are a few free players which may work. (I have not used them). Try dvdrhelp.com
