Whats the story with this, is it replacing the 5-card draw tournament or is it going to be run in the new area upstairs?

    What about blinds, buy-ins, etc?

pretty sure this starts at 7pm

7pm start. €25 entry, with one re-buy ONLY (no top up). Chip stack 3000, blinds start at 10-25 with usual structre. An ideal tourney to get into the wonderful game of omaha without spending loads on the cash game, would highly reccomend it to anyone who is considering playing in it. Have missed the last two due to Ireland games etc but will be back this week to see if I can maintain my 100% record!

It is a fun little tournie, it reminds me of when I started playing NLH at the start of this year, not knowing what the hell I'm doing and making ropey calls but getting away with them :)

I make a habit of blowing out on the first hand and having to rebuy and then getting to the last 4 (bubble twice and top money once).

Busting Oscar is its own reward though...

Forgot to ask, is it played pot-limit or no-limit (I'm assuming pot-limit?).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 437 ✭✭JuliusFranco

    pot limit

I played crap and busted out after about an hour or so. How did things end up?

    Hows your 100% record JP?

In tatters. Went out in ninth when my top trips on a rainbow flop fell afoul to a runner runner straight flush! And I had over 6k in chips at the time!

Are the stacks and blinds in this tournament well thought out? Whats the 'bingo quotient' (BQ) like?
    :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,383 ✭✭✭Juan Pablo

Stacks are fine. 3,000 seems to suit. Play solid Omaha and the BQ is -, with EV +. Barring miracle outdraws that is

There was some chat about this on Table 1 last night. The stack is 3000 with blinds starting at 10/25. You can rebuy once or top-up at the break BUT only to the orignal 3000. So if you have 275 at the break the top-up value is worth it but if you have 2350 then its probably not worth it.

Two guys who had not played the tournament before (but sat down to play)were not happy with this when it was explained a few hands in. First guy out thought he had 2 rebuys or 1 rebuy/1 top-up. From what I know the idea of the structure was to prevent the top-up aiding big stacks get bigger at the break.

The BQ was huge as it always is with Omaha. For me thats part of the attraction.

A great little tournament. Only 14 started though. I don't know if there were any late comers as I was home before the break. :(

You can never please everyone! That's the thing with poker - the amount of moaning that goes on is incredible. I know I do this myself (ie when I get outdrawn etc) but I'm trying my best to cut down on it. Moaning about the structure of the tournie is pointless - if you're not happy you shouldn't have entered. If one hasn't checked out and fully understood the structure before entering that is extremely shortsighted on one's part and one's own fault! Personally, I've only played the tournie once for a variety of reasons, but enjoyed it and think it's a great structure. But seriously, poker must be the game full of more moaners than any other game. It's incredible.

People who buy into and play a tournie where they dont know the structure are morons you shouldnt listen to.

Its a fun tournie, BQ is as it always is with Omaha but solid play increases the number of "bingos" you hit.

I went out to the case 3. I'll say no more.

I like this tournie, its small, short, fun and theres a fair bit of crack. But I'm annoyed that everytime I go to play it, I have to deal for my table. If theres a reg there should be a dealer imho. I cant abide self dealt games so along with feeling "cajoled" into it, I feel that to have a decent game I have to deal (or at least someone does).

The atmosphere is very relaxed and its played by people trying to learn PL Omaha as much as by any Omaha specialists!

Anyone playing tonight? there will be dealers provided

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

I'm not dealing tonight, I always get lumped with dealing this tournie!
This tournie really needs 2 dealers for the (usual) two tables. There's a reg to pay their wages too. It actually puts me off going in since I know I'm either going to have to deal or watch some moron trying to count to 4. :)

Any one report on last noight's game???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 799 ✭✭✭dirkey_wynne

There were 12 or 13 runners in total I believe. Paid out to 4th. I came 4th. Had a house on the turn and walked into some idiot playing a better house than me! Can't for the life of me think why he was in!! ;)

Sorry bohsman, I read it as "will there be dealers" and thats what set me off :)

My apologies to all in the Fitz, maybe they listened to me before or maybe not but the tournie had dealers for both tables. Much more pleasant it was to play too!

Yeah Dirkey there was some cRaZy loony making all *sorts* of bets at our table! Oh yeah... that was me :(

    DeV.

Yeah DeV, but you weren't the idiot calling with a bigger house than mine! Sheesh, how did he call that!! :D

Enjoyed the game. Was scraping around all night, hitting absolutely nothing for most of the night. I mean, who ever thought Marks pocket 6's would win that hand which went all the way to the river - with two other players! I mean how could I have a high card in Omaha! Lol. Was quite happy to get my money back, I actually wouldn't have minded getting the bubble.

Myself and a bloke who's name I shamefully cant recall this morning split it in the end, I was fairly well chip leader (about 3-4 : 1) but to be honest it would have taken all night to play to the finish.

You think YOU had it bad Dirkey, the same bloke bet on the river WITH JUST A STRAIGHT FLUSH!!

However the money is nothing next to the exquisite delight of watching Bohsman's draw fail... ahh, the straight, such an underrated Omaha hand...

    DeV.

I thought that was very poor play by marq, calling all in preflop. He could only be a 2:1 favourite at best!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

    Yup
But I thought reraising you with the double suited aces was a good play, and then i just had to call your all-in!
