Need a PDA that can hold a english to danish dictionary.

Never had one so not sure how much to spend on them, hence posting.

    /jumps on board kdjaC's post /

first up, most pda's now have sd slots so you can buy memory, I thinks its currently under 100€ for 1 gb (not sure tho).Chances are tho your dictionary depending on format would be quite small tho.So if your only after the dictionary and chance to try out a pda maybe a cheaper model might surfice.

Now I dont know why Im telling you this when I probably dont know much more then your self :) , which is kinda why Im bumping the thread. Maybe a sticky on pda advice from those who actually own pda's might be an Idea. Tho it might also be easier to find this info on the web :p . Im now starting to think of getting a bargain in the january sales and am starting to wonder what I should be looking for. Now thing is tho I dont know anyone who use's a pda full time, so It would be cool if some of the pda-philes (lol at the pun), could come in and give us the low down.

    Some questions to start are:
Do many devices still carry IR?
Whats the deal with flashing different op systems?
Data entry, buy keyboard or use inbuilt systems?
Control potential of servers over wifi/ bluetooth?
    Is it worth it?
    Multimedia abilitys?

Ill get round to some searching the threads after the exams when I got time, but if anyone wants to chip in, it would be very much apreciated.

hi, if this is the most significant requirement, the best place to start would be to find the best application to suit your needs...

www.handango.com would be a good place to start looking - searching for danish in both the Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Palm OS sections to see the available software

that could help decide the platform and the supported devices so you can narrow your search down...

yes - with bluetooth becoming more common also

Whats the deal with flashing different op systems?
ROM Images are made for specific devices by the manufacturers - sometimes patches/updates are provided via their support channels - sometimes upgrades to new OS are provided, usually at cost - there have been ports of linux to certain ipaqs, but you can't e.g. load Palm OS onto a Pocket PC device (or even between devices on the same platform due to the hardware differences between them)

Data entry, buy keyboard or use inbuilt systems?
various on-screen input methods: keyboard, block character recogniser, handwriting recognition (you may / may not find it works well for you); built in 'keypads'; external keyboards (dock/IR/Bluetooth) - depends on the device what is available built-in/accessories - and of course how much data you are going to be entering...

Control potential of servers over wifi/ bluetooth?
there are remote desktop / terminal service client, and more direct 'remote control' apps - how useful they would be depends on your requirements / setup

    Is it worth it?
maybe / maybe not - work out if it will meet your requirements... and if it is a need or a want ;)

    Multimedia abilities?
audio / video playback possible - depends on device spec - constrained by battery life / memory availability

    wanna buy mine?

    its an acer n30
    /enters pimp mode

266mhz samsung arm processor - supposedly performs like a 400mhz xscale
    64mb ram
    bluetooth
    windows mobile 2003
    sd card expansion slot
the usb cable also supports host devices to meaning you can plug in a flash drive and use it directly on the pda as stoage space.
i will also throw in a 128mb sd card, a usb bluetooth adapter for your pc and a pouch for the fecker all for the low low price of 200eurons!!
