    Hi all,

Just wondering if any organisation in Ireland is requesting that licence holders be allowed to reload here.

The EU seems to legislate for everything like bottle tops and nunber plates . But never something handy like this

    Thanks, Bryan

From memory (so take my replay with that in mind) there was an offer made a few years back to some of the organisations to allow less restrictive rules and they did not avail as they felt their members wouldn't need it (more knowledgeable people here will better explain)

You technically can get a license to re load, I know the midlands shooting range has ability to reload. Issue is there is so many requirements to get the license its not worth the cost (think you need the same as full rfd building and storage). Then add in the cost to import in small amounts reloading materials it becomes a very dear round.

I would say if you were doing some serious long range or precision shooting it may be worth while at a huge cost.

There are a number of threads on here discussing it so you may be able dig them out for more info

It is legal to reload ammo in Ireland, just as it is to posses the equipment, BUT without primers and powder, reloading equipment are just very expensive ornaments. That is the problem getting powder and primers.

Get past this little SI too.

SI 804 2007 stores of explosive order 2007 There is a whole section on reloading in there. Great if you are going to commercially manufacture ammo in Ireland. Utter overkill for a lad wanting to reload a few deer loads or experimental rounds for the range.

Figure out a economical way to get powder and primers into the ROI that doesn't involve expensive HAZMAT shipping and transport by truck ,rail and ferry from the UK,NI or mainland EU. Inc police escorts from both sides of the NI/UK/EU border to your home and custom built powder storage in your dealer or home. Not to mind import /export lics from the DOJ, seller country and other misc paperwork on moving explosives around the EU. Which, despite its claims has not prevented ,one, single, terrorist or criminal attack using explosives in the EU since its inception 20 years ago.

So even if we did get the minister responsible for this act[Justice presumebly] to change the SI to terms more favourable to a home reloader ,the logistics cost will still kill you. Is there a big enough market for gun dealers to go and build seperate storage facilities for powder and primers?

With pipe bomb attacks becoming a thing again in Dublin, will our friends in AGS be too happy in issuing lics for storage of powder for reloading countrywide?

A point not mentioned in this is safety.

At the moment you know if you are on the line the guys to the left and right of you are both shooting commercially made ammo so there is little to no risk of someone squeezing off a rather hot round or one misloaded with the wrong powder, and turning their gun into a grenade.
