Backdated LCR

I joined the company health insurance scheme 8 years ago at the age of 44. I never noticed, but they made a mistake in the calculation of the LCR (that was suppose to be at 20%), and they only started charging it with this year policy. However with my latest payslip the BIK increased by nearly 200%: I contacted the insurer and they confirmed that this is due to the fact that they were going to charge me a backdated LCR for all the years I haven't paid it.
Can they do that? It seem absurd that, based on their mistake, I have to pay a premium from 8 years ago, also considering that every year I got a new policy
