Pick up choice

I'm looking into getting a pick up. I need something that'll give proper 4x4 capability for some work in fields (4L essential, not just 4x4 or awd). Reason for the pick up as opposed to a jeep is to keep tools/equipment/dogs/other stuff seperate from the main compartment and therefore keep the main compartment cleaner.

    Anyway, I'm looking at a Hilux (2020ish) or a Ranger (2022ish).

Any thoughts on what's better overall, in terms of reliability, maintenance, issues that may occur on the different models?

I know Toyota should be bullet proof in terms of reliability. Ford...maybe not so much?

Basically I don't want a pick up thats going to cost me extra bar general service requirements when needed!
