BMW Emergency Call System not functioning Error Message

The emergency call system not functioning error message piped up on my car yesterday (G30). It seems the most common cause is the battery in the telemetrics system failing so I bought a new one from the dealer and replaced it. €94 euro for the replacement !

I need to clear the error message, would a bog standard OBD reader from Amazon do the job or does it need something more sophisticated ? If so would anyone here be able to do it (Northside Dublin). Local garage quoted me 85 euro to run the diagnostic.

I need to get it cleared for the NCT - the mileage can’t be seen while the error message is still there.

Are you sure there isn't a trip button or something you can press to get the mileage to show? You'll need a good scanner to clear a fault like that.

No, it needs a fault code cleared. I’ve bought a Bluetooth OBD reader and will download bimmerlink and try to do it that way.

Just to close this out, I cleared the code using the Bluetooth OBD dongle and the Bimmerlink app. So total cost to clear a fault on a system I’ve no need for

It’s crazy that an error message blocks basic information like mileage when it’s also highlighted on the notification screen. When researching this on-line BMW are charging anything from 1200 to 2000 to replace the battery depending on model as it requires stripping of multiple trip pieces. I was lucky on the g30 I could get access via the headlining in the rear of the car.

My advice is to get it coded out if it happens to you.

I've had this error on my car for the last 6 months, very annoying. Where did you get the OBD Dongle from?
