Coding a Secondhand part to a VW

ABS module went in my daughters VW so sourced a replacement and fitted it. Went to erase the error (have workshop launch computer) and it’s saying new part needs to be coded to the car. We’ve never done this before. I know the section to enter the code on the launch but do I need to plug back in the old module to get the code off it or how do you gemterste a new one. Think it’s a 27 digit code.

Any help greatLy appreciated.

You can get the long coding from the old module or you can use the online coding feature where the coding gets pulled based on the vin from the vw servers

If I cant get it off the old one, where do you access the online calculator?

Yes but they don't have the feature to pull the coding from the vw servers so you would need to know it

Assuming of course that the OP can't retrieve the code from the old module . But if he can, VCDS may get him out of his predicament if he still can't get the Launch to do the business 😉

Absolutely but to be fair the launch does make it easy, definitely my go to over vcds every day as it can do things vcds cant

Plugged in the old module and got the code off it, plugged back in the replacement and entered it and it worked. Thanks a million.
Delighted I don’t throw it out now

That's always the best way to do it if you can, sometimes the old module is dead though
