B&Q Look at the price before you buy

You might think prices for DIY products at B&Q would be a lot cheaper than your local corner shop DIY. WRONG. I bought tubes of CT 1 Sealant at B&Q and at €18.30 each I thought inflation had gone through the roof but I needed them the next day and went ahead. The next day I checked at a small local DIY / Supermarket which itself has a reputation for being on the pricey side and the exact same product was €12.50 a tube. Wow. Talk about a rip off. Don't assume the big places are cheapest.

I'd be interested to know what pricey supermarket is offering better pricing than B&Q on CT 1 sealant. I might be able to pickup an 8x4 plywood sheet with my mince pies and sherry.

Shop around if you want the best price. Solid advice. Should have thought of it myself.

Always, always check both Screwfix - same company, frequently much cheaper - and local independents before buying from B&Q. And before buying from Woodies actually.

In my experience, local independents are almost always cheaper. You're paying for stock levels and opening hours in B&Q

It's their MO, they'll headline the cheapness of the main product, tiles, paint etc, but charge extra for the materials needed to apply or use them. I bought a hedgetrimmer (reduced) in Woodies a while back and they had signs saying don't forget your two-stroke oil alongside, then the lady at the till mentioned it again! Gave me a chuckle at the helpfulness/brazen upselling.

Building suppliers like Brooks and Chadwick’s are usually about 30/40% cheaper than woodies
