Huawei BMS/Inverter/Battery issue

In the last few weeks my Huawei sun2000-5ktl 5kW battery stopped charging overnight during my cheap electricity period of 2-5am. It would still charge during the day from the panels, and discharge as normal. After reporting the issue to the company that installed it and them coming out and troubleshooting it, it seems that the issue is that (according to them) an update for the inverter made it go into standby mode at night when no sun detected and no charge is left in the battery. They say the system should then wake everything up when the charging window comes around, but the battery goes into 'offline' mode when the inverter is on standby, and doesn't start up until the inverter wakes back up again the next morning with sunlight.

I have managed to get a workaround into place myself whereby I set the discharge limit on the battery to around 12% during the day, then when it reaches that, end the discharge window, change the limit to 5% or so, and put in another discharge window just before 2am, and the battery stays online and charges then overnight in the cheap window.

This is a bit of a pain to have to remember to do this twice a day, and the solar company are 'liaising with the manufacturers agent', but it's going pretty slowly. Has anyone else heard of this problem, and is there any solution that doesn't require either the inverter or BMS (presumably not the battery) being replaced ultimately? I went with Huawei inverter/battery despite the fact that I knew they were a bit more expensive and not compatible with other tech because I was under the impression they were very reliable and always worked. However, my Inverter had to be replaced within 6 weeks of original install, and there is another ongoing issue with it that is only a problem during summer that hasn't been resolved and now this. It's a pain in the hole, tbh, and making me regret my choices.

Maybe this is just a rant and I can't do anything other than wait for it to play out, but no harm putting it out there.

What firmware version you are on for battery and inverter?
I never had such a issue do You have properly setup charging/discharging time under TOU?

If this was two different manufacturers systems then I could understand the disconnect to a point, but this is a Huawei inverter and Huawei battery… that's not good.

From what I saw Huawei pulled out of the UK market recently, I'd ask the installer if this has affected his relationship with Huawei, or are they making noises like they are pulling back from Ireland also?

Have you tried looking for that same issue on forums online as it sounds like it should be pretty common to anybody who has your config?

All firmware updated during their investigations, but wasn't the issue seemingly. I got my initial solar install in March 2024, added the battery in June 2025, all through the same installer, all Huawei tech. It was charging/discharging no issue for months until around early Oct, but maybe this was due to the fact that the battery often didn't fully discharge due to low usage during the summer, as aside from the 2-5am window I used almost no power from the grid, so the battery filled the gaps. All charging times and TOU set fine. I have made changes to the charging windows as the days get shorter, and also to get the workaround I came up with myself, but didn't change it from TOU at all.

I've done scattergun searches but haven't found anything, but maybe not looking in the right places. When the electrician was on a call with the suppliers who get their stuff from Huawei he told me that I'm not the only one having the issue, but if that was the case I'd have hoped it'd be more easily resolved. Surely there must be a setting, even if only an admin one that I can't access as an end user that stops the inverter going into standby and therefore shutting down the battery?

Just on the point of Huawei pulling out of the UK market the Irish support network should be unchanged as we are covered by SKE the main distributor for all of Europe (who will now be covering the UK as well going forward.)

For the OP it might be worth posting to the Irish Solar Owners Group on Facebook, there are some very knowledgeable Huawei owners on there.

If you think is setup correctly open case with Huawei directly - they are slow to respond but you will have direct path to manufacture:
    eu_inverter_support@Huawei.com

    Latest firmware:
    Battery - V100R002C00SPC637
    Inverter - V200R001C00SPC151

Thanks all. Just got an email that the manufacturer (or maybe just SKE in this instance rather than Huawei) have made some updates and they point to the fact that it charged the last couple of nights as evidence that it is probably fixed, despite the fact that this is almost certainly because of my intervention to stop it going in standby, but I won't do it tonight to prove it either way. Good couple of suggestions for taking it forward other ways if it isn't resolved (which I'd be surprised if it is tbh).

I am having the same issue with my Huawei system with 10kw battery. The issue is when the battery goes to its SOC the inverter is going into standby after a certain amount of time when it gets dark. The battery goes offline and then doesn’t charge during the night. When the inverter starts running again when it gets enough light the battery starts running but it’s still at the SOC. I contacted my installer and they were unable to fix it remotely so they sent someone out. They found no issues with wiring etc. I have reported this a month ago and still no solution. Unfortunately I have been doing all the chasing with my installer with no updates. I have had the system working without any issues for a year so it's disappointing that this has not been fixed quicker given the premium price of the Huawei equipment.

With the very cloudy weather the battery doesn’t charge much during the day and goes offline again at night. I have forced charge mine to 20% before the inverter goes off and this keeps the battery online for it to charge from 2 to 6am. It’s not ideal. I’m hoping it will be fixed soon.

Is inverter operating normally (i mean if DC and AC lights are not flashing during time when you have an issue?).

If not check if you have "Hibernation" mode enabled under feature parameters settings (installer login and direct connection to the inverter required)

Best open a case with Huawei then so that they know that it's more common than just one affected system.

I opened a case with Huawei today. Hoping that they can solve it quickly. I'm guessing that there are alot of people that never check their system or app and don't know this is happening.

It's really irritating. You have found a different workaround to me, but neither are satisfactory long term.

This might be useful for you @selfbuilder1. I posted on the Huawei forum and got this response, which involves the installer or maybe Huawei if you have an open ticket checking and updating as follows. I don't have permissions in the app for this anyhow. I can see the inverter firmware isn't the right version, despite the installer saying they have updated it, and I the battery firmware is different too, but almost looks newer, must check the order of release versions.

Your Huawei Sun2000-5KTL-L1 inverter and 5 kW LUNA battery are not charging from the grid overnight because the inverter goes into standby mode when there’s no solar generation, preventing it from waking up for the scheduled 2–5 AM charge. The proper fix is to update the inverter firmware to at least V300R023C00SPC141 and the battery to V100R001C00SPC138, as Huawei’s newer versions correct the “grid charge not starting from standby” issue.

Then, in the FusionSolar app, go to Device → Inverter → Settings → Power Adjustment → Grid Charge Settings and make sure “Allow Grid Charge” and “Always Active” (or similar) options are enabled so the inverter stays awake overnight. Also verify the inverter time is correct and adjust the sleep/standby delay if available to prevent early shutdown. Until the firmware is updated, you can use a temporary fix by scheduling a short discharge period (e.g., 1:30–2 AM) before the charge window to keep the system active.

Check Firmware Versions (FusionSolar → Device → Inverter → Version Info)

If older than versions above → request installer or Huawei Support to update.

    Confirm Time Settings

    Enable/Review Grid Charge Schedule

Ask Installer for “Always-On” or “Prevent Sleep” setting

(Optional) Keep temporary discharge overlap workaround.

Looking back at the thread, these are the versions of firmware I have installed already. The input from the huawei forum gives me different version numbers (as above), but I can't find anywhere with lists of released firmware by date, but that's probably just because I don't know where to find it to be honest.
