Fertiliser discrepancy by co-op

Hi, just posting this to make people aware of possible fraud when it comes to fertiliser purchases.

I didn't receive my eco scheme payment and thought it was just a typical delay, decided to call my planner this morning to ask him to look into it.

After spending a little time on my agfood account he discovered that I'm down for using 34 ton of nitrogen and I only purchased a 10th of that quantity.

Went to the co-op to get my receipts printed off again and they gave me the receipts for what I purchased but there was 3 or 4 other receipts/transactions that they wouldn't give me access to.

I've not got my eco payment and stand to possibly lose the acres now as well.

I'm going in again tomorrow to try find out more from the co-op but it's like pulling teeth.

If it's a genuine error that can be rectified in ok with that. We all make mistakes.

If it arises that someone used my name and herd number fraudulently to stay within the nitrates directive heads will have to roll local co-op or not.

I just can't believe someone would do this to a fellow farmer if that's how it went down.

I'll update when I find out more.

Any advice welcome. Anything but this company up to Christmas.

    Kind regards, Kay 9

If it's your account you've entitled to see all of the receipts against your name.

Is it possible someone in your area has the same name as you? I got a 2000 EUR bill today for my namesake 3 counties away.

I'm in full agreement with that.

I was a bit timid today but I might have to go in with a more stern attitude in the morning. Was in disbelief to be honest but I'll be more prepared tomorrow.

Meant to add to that it wasn't an account. I pay as I go but should still be granted access to anything under my name or herd number I in believe.

I actually have a very rare and unusual surname so it's highly unlikely.

You can access your own fert register on the new Agfood anyway. But it won't obviously say where the wrong orders came from and where they went.

It'd be worth it checking it out tonight yourself to see are the illegitimate orders still there.

That makes it a little harder to prove. And I have no doubt that it’s not a mistake.

I filled out my end of season stock for fertiliser on AgFood a few weeks ago. According to their records I only bought 1 tonne from the co-op. I actually bought about 5 tonne.

anyone who thinks co-ops help farmers are deluded. That WAS why they were set up, but that ship has long sailed. They are now rip off merchants. The mark up they have on a whole range of products is huge

Just off the agfood register and there's been loads of separate returns after me being in today. There was actually 500 ton on one transaction returned at an earlier date. There's only one order left of 1 ton of can that I didn't get either. Going to tell them that tomorrow as well. Thanks so much for the heads up for checking that on agfood. I was going to go in tomorrow all guns blazing.

    You've saved me the embarrassment.

They still shouldn't have put all that fertiliser down to me and the fact there was more than I thought is alarming to say the least.

    Thanks again..

Calm down a while now. As said above, log in to agfood, and go in to the fertilizer database or get your adviser to do it and write down the amounts/type/ and dates the fertilizer supposedly arrived.

Are you sure, its even from the coop and not another merchant.

Then you have something to talk to the COOP about, rather than going in unprepared.

It's in to the sales managers office I would be going Anyway, rather than Some young fella, busy in side the counter

I wouldn't worry about losing payments, it's just a matter of amending register. Your co-op will know what was sold/delivered to you. The dept are well aware that there is inaccuracies on the register, Teagasc have brought up the issue a number of times.

    Screenshot everything

Had that experience also. Some co-ops, particularly smaller ones with only 1 or 2 employees, may not always be too assiduous in making proper or complete returns to the Dept. for fert. purchased.

Hopefully all sorted today. They've taken full responsibility and are going to email the department of agri with rectified records. Also said to notify them if there are any further repercussions with regard to payments etc.

Can't really ask for any fairer than that.

Mf man, was it easy get sorted and did it lead to any other issues? Cheers

It should have been easy to sort out by looking at the payment details. Good it's sorted

Well, emmm., it was to my advantage, so I left well enough alone.

    It's here nor there.

But if there were any unscrupulous organic farmers before. They have nowhere to hide with the fert register. Unless merchants create false farmer accounts to hide purchases in.

Organic can buy literally all anyway just not Nitrogen.

I think there's a fert registry going to come into effect up there too.

I see a farmer bringing in machinery from the UK and selling here also bringing in fert. They started the mach importing first then bought their own lorry. Most likely they could be selling it on.
