Hello how are ye. This year i was going to outwinter some of the weanlings. Space in the slatted unit is tight. I was going to feed them silage as well as letting them have access to grazing ground. The field they will be in is sheltered all around it. I was going to dose them now for worms and fluke. Maybe give them injection of some sort for worms etc. They already have blackleg vaccine. Any other percautions to give them. First year having anything out of the house. Im telling myself they will be healthier out… Does anyone leave cattle out for winter.

Give them a vitamin drench as well, I have a few sucklers out every year, no bother to them. I give them access to a wood and fields.

If ground conditions stay favourable you won’t have a problem. Used to do it years ago with weanlings, any night it wasn’t absolutely pouring down rain they were outside, regardless of temperature.

What is the name of the drench ?

Are there any mineral buckets / licks that are suitable for young beef cattle ?

The main factor is that you make it as easy as possible for yourself as regards feeding them.

Thanks everyone for replying to me.

I have bales placed in the field already so will just move feeder around for them.

What mineral drench/buckets would you advice.

we’d have the last pen in the slatted shed open and weanlings can eat the barrier, lie in the shed or out in the paddock. Honestly I’d say they only lie in about a half dozen nights over the winter and they do well.
we bolus them all and they get meal all winter so minerals aren’t a worry.

A lot of pneumonia going around so watch that.

I used Bovigain Super this year for all the animals, it's a good boost and you could see ee the shine off them during the summer.

With the drench you know they're all getting the right amount over the lick buckets.

    Best price here:

Is there any injection to give them to reduce the risk of pneumonia. Thankfully this year so far we have no issues with it but with leaving them out now for winter theres possibly a greater chance of possibly getting it.

    Thanks

Just be aware of them picking in the ditches if it's sheltered all around. Shouldn't be a problem but I'd be very cautious if you have the like of ferns growing.

Yep, had a case of photosynthesis this week, imagine it was a weed in the ditch as I overgrazed this field too tight.
