Sonoff mini in ceiling rose - permanently live - allowed?

    Hi there,

I have bought a house and trying to add smart lighting options.

We have no neutral at the light switch, but we have neutral in the ceiling rose.

I am thinking of installing these relay modules in the ceiling rose.

From speaking to chatGPT, it seems that I (or my electrician) can wire the relay in the ceiling rose, so that it always has power.

The old switch on the wall can still turn it on and off (based on some home automations - havent truly looked in to this yet as need to get the switches first for the electrician), but there will always be power to the relay and therefore always power to the bulb (so can switch on the bulb with voice commands even when wall switch is toggled off).

    Is this correct?

Is it safe that it will be permanently on? ChatGPT says that as its always live, will need to switch off the power at the breaker to change bulbs etc.

Is it legal in Irish regulations?

    Thanks

Installing at the ceiling rose is no different to installing at a wall switch with a neutral. The device needs to be always on or it wouldn't work. The bulb won't be permanently live or it would be on. The wall switch or an automation can turn it on/ off at anytime though.

There are no neutral switches also, that can be installed at the wall, with them though your bulb will always be somewhat live, basically max dimming is "off", but you will need dimmable bulbs and in some instances may need to install a capacitor at the ceiling rose anyway.

As for turning the breaker off to change bulbs? That up to you, but I often find the circuit is on anyway when I go to change a bulb, especially if it has 2/3 way switching. Honestly if that's your concern you would be best off getting an electrician anyway and they would be best to advise on regulations.
