Contractor requesting additional money

Hello, I am a portion of the way through a build via a contractor in Galway. We are 1/3 of the way through, numerous delays and the builder is now saying he has lost money so far. He wants to renegotiate the contract to get more money. I have held back retention but other than finding a new contractor at this stage it seems my hands are tied.

Has anyone been through this before and do they have any advice?

    Thanks

Did you sign a contract? Who was responsible for the delays you encountered to date?

We did sign a contract but the only recourse is the retention which isn't a massive amount kg money thus far. Delays were mistakes by builder which he has taken responsibility for and fully corrected.

What stage are u at? Roof on ?

He priced the job, got the job n now wants more. I wouldn't entertain it.

What caused the delays - you or him? If materials have gone up in the meantime due to your delays I'd side with him on it

You should engage a Chartered Quantity Surveyor or a Registered Quantity Surveyor for advice before parting with any more money and also before agreeing any change in your Contract with the Builder.
