The deadline for SEPA Instant (Outbound as well as Inbound) and VOP (Verification of Payee) is tomorrow 9th October 2025. It would be interesting to hear people’s experience POST this deadline.

Does it all come together and work for you ?

Any gotchas or poor experiences or shortcomings ?

Any quirky or “Irish Bank Exceptionalism” “features” ?

Let us all know how you get on.

Didn't work for me , tsb to 2 different other banks. Their app even says next working day. All 3 banks emailed me to say instant starts 9th Oct

Edit, seems that the android app will be updated in a few days and it will work then.

Small credit union app works already.

Already had a SEPA Instant inbound from Paypal, to a credit union current account. I've not needed to consider it yet for anything else.

I was offered it when paying my credit card bill, but I don't want to risk any verification issues there, considering I have no idea what the account holder name is for the recipient account that every single cardholder uses!

Was that a notification in the PTSB app said that or did you see it elsewhere?

I tried a SEPA transfer from EBS to Revolut yesterday, and it worked instantly. The EBS website did warn me that the payee name didn't match the name I had for the transfer, but the transfer went ahead anyway.

When you setup that payee, you would have been more concerned to get the IBAN correct since (at the time) it didn't matter what name you gave the payee. EBS allows you to specify a nickname as well as the payee account name.

You could now, if you choose to do so, change the payee definition in your MM account so that the payee account name matches that of the payee's account. Click on 'Manage', then 'Beneficiaries', hover the mouse over the payee's box and click on 'Amend'. You can then change any part of the definition except the IBAN.

You can't make any change to a payee definition in BoI without deleting the payee and redefining it. AIB and EBS will allow you to change the nickname and/or the payee account name without having to delete the payee and start again.

Thanks - your suggestion works with the Money Manager account, I was able to change the payee name to match the Revolut version 👍

Trying to make a payment from BOI to TSB Visa CC account (previously worked fine)

First get "Unable to check payee name, continue anyway (yes)"

But payment fails to go through "there is a problem with the Payee IBAN check details"

I can transfer to 2 other TSB accounts (savings and current)

I do get "Unable to check payee name, continue anyway (yes)"

    But payments go through?

Revolut to Credit Union - VOP confirmed name correct, payment through in under a minute, including however long it took the CU app to do the push notification.

CU seems to have it all working properly then.

Tsb app on Android updated and it's working.

Still shabby it took a week to get the app updated when 2 different credit unions I'm a member of had it working last Fri.

Tried it for the first time last night, PTSB app to credit union, within 10 seconds had notifications from both ends that it had gone through OK. Quite the culture shock for those of us used to Irish "pillar banks".

I've had success with about a dozen SEPA Instant transactions involving AIB, BOI, N26 and Revolut. Only issue has been poor implementation of VOP rules (e.g. middle name causing a mis-match).

Only bank that does not appear to be accepting inbound SEPA Instant is Raisin, despite saying that they do on their website.

I'm having problems transferring money from PTSB to EBS. I set up EBS as a new payee but I keep on getting an error message. The IBAN is correct.

I went into PTSB on Friday but I forgot my ID so will have to go back tomorrow to see if they can sort it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,956 ✭✭✭✭coylemj

Tomorrow, you are going to explain the problem to an official in the branch. He or she will then phone the IT helpdesk and pass on the information you gave them. That official in the branch will probably be talking to the same person who would have dealt direct with you if you had phoned their helpline.

    Eliminate the middleman, phone them.

Not really. They can help me. I just forgot my passport. It will be sorted tomorrow anyway.

I have a Bank of Ireland credit card and PTSB current account. No issue before today making a transfer to the account listed on the BoI card statement from the current account. Now I need the correct payee name, can't make a unverified transfer.

Asked BoI on fb messenger, they've replied with dumbass answers and questions.

Phoned BoI card service - they told me BOIMASTERCARD is the payee name but it probably won't work with PTSB.

Called PTSB, they said use my own name as the payee name and I was able to add the payee immediately and make a 24hr transfer (instant not allowed).

Have applied for a PTSB credit card, BoI really are shyte.

Not related to Irish banks, but for the last week transfers from Klarna to Revolut aren't instant anymore - Revolut to Klarna is still instant. Never had a problem before.

    Anyone know what's going on?
