Am I the only person driven mad by gauges that don't agree with each other?

I don't really trust the old fashioned spring type gauges, even though I have two of them that consistently agree 😉 but I just got a new digital one which consistently reads 2psi lower than every other one 😕 and as on the other thread, I have a TPMS that is a POS so that's no help

I suppose I shouldn't complain too much as the rear tyre on my bike has an acceptable range between 42psi - two up fully loaded which never happens - and 36psi minimal load solo riding.

Now if the fcuker would just stop leaking I'd be happy!

I've a spring type gauge on the bike that is within 1 PSI of a digital gauge that my brother has. So I just use that all the time. I don't trust the gauges at the service stations, just use my own gauge all the time!

I thought about getting a TPMS for the bike but decided against it based on your last thread!

Using a garage tyre pressure gauge / reading is crazy , unless badly stuck.

buy a decent foot pump and a decent pressure gauge - ive both here at home, check my pressures every 2 weeks, basically to stop the tyre squaring off / wearing down prematurely not to mention keep the bike handling ok, i can notice it if its a couple of psi out.

running lower pressures is subjective, but each to their own.On the bike i ran 37 rear 35 front in 39/40 degree heat on endless twisting roads in spain in August was fine, and put them back up when i got home.

With the scooter i run factory full psi, i wouldnt run a scooter lower regardless of size.

I'm actually on the lookout now for a mains powered tyre pump.

There are any number of 12V ones out there but I'd like one that can pump a tyre without having to have the engine running or worry about discharging the bike battery too much.

There are rechargeable ones now but I can't imagine the battery in something like that which won't get used for weeks/months at a time lasting very long.

Lidl/Aldi do mains voltage air pumps sometimes, but I can't remember if they're suitable for tyres, or just airbeds, inflatables etc.

You should stick with standard pressures when riding hard imo

Lower pressures allow more flexing of the tyre carcass which increases heat buildup

Pressures will naturally rise in high temp / hard riding conditions but the recommended tyre pressure allows for this

Some people reduce pressure for trackdays because they want more heat buildup in the tyre. That's OK because the tyre doesn't get much chance to heat up only doing a few laps at a time. And it always seems to be freezing at Mondello regardless of what month it is 😀

Did you consider a small compressor? Then you can run small air tools off it as well if you have a small shed/garage for the bike!

Back in the day, all you really had was a bicycle pump. Used to take <10 minutes to inflate a rear tyre. Good exercise too! 😀
