I've giving advice (or rowing as some people call it) for around 15 years now. I really do like sharing my knowledge & helping people. I spend a lot of my days talking calls from Ireland and the UK looking for advice on shower repair. My wife has heard me so much that she often takes these calls.

Recently I've been concerned about the amount of posters saying that they are competent only to find out that they have endangered their families lives with dangerous electric work. I can no longer sleep soundly not knowing if advice I give is being used by a competent person or helping someone to carry out work that only a REC is allowed do by law..

Boards.ie can be a wonderful asset when used correctly. I may rejoin under a different name and steer away from the plumbing & electrical forums.

    Thanks to everyone. 👍

Well be very sad to lose you and your expertise. I do understand why, as its interfering with your sleep.

I sometimes have the same problems and satisfy myself that I've given the correct caution along with advice. I often engage no further as its just repeating myself and sometimes arguing with dickheads. That preserves my sanity.

I do understand your broad point though. I sometimes use the analogy of the taxi driver telling you how to fitt a circulation pump and the plumber giving the same advice. Who bears the the greater responsibility if things go pear shaped. That's why we have to careful when giving advice that is obviously within our competency.

Perhaps you'll consider staying on here and advise at a level that you're comfortable with.

If you decide otherwise, thank you so much for all the help you've given here over the years.

I can only echo WearB's sentiment in saying I'll be sorry to see you go.
That said, I fully understand why you feel the need to go though. Thanks for your posts, here and in other corners.

I've gotten shocks working on showers because the hands on LL turned on the isolation switch while I was working on the shower. This has happened more than once. Now I make the LL go downstairs. Any room I work in is a work area & non employees should be in a work space.

A Dublin plumber was fatally electrocuted recently due to shoddy illegal DIY work done. Homeowner claimed to know nothing the shoddy work. It's been on my mind a lot recently.

I do love boards.ie though. I will rejoin under another name but keep away from the plumbing and electrician forums.

If you see Sleeper13 online it could be me 😊

Thanks Sleeper12 for your great expertise.

You fitted a replacement shower part for me a few years ago and it's still going great! (I stupidly 🙈 had given you the wrong model number and you kindly came back again the next day to fit the correct one, a lovely neat and clean job 👍)

Hope to see you back under your new name.

I think most posters know who I am & what business I run. I'm always happy to give advice on the shower itself. You know where to find me

Thanks for the advice you've given here, it was much appreciated by many.

Sadly some people simply aren't interested in learning their own limits, and as they say "a little knowledge is dangerous"!

Long time reader of your advice. It has been much appreciated so thank you. I understand your reasons. I keep well away from fiddling with electrical circuits and plumbing and as a result have lived to a ripe old age!
