Isn't it very telling that I can find much more interesting/entertaining/informing youtube videos made by "nobodies" with a phone camera and 20 euro mike than anything on modern rte or even brithish media.

And I've loved tv for 30 years up until perhaps 15 years ago.

How much does it take to throw out a cooking episode of Donal skehan..? 50k..more? And I'd rather watch 30min of atomic shrimp making a meal from 2 pounds.

I gave up on mainstream TV about 8 months ago and honestly wont be returning to it.

I certainly do not miss the ads, that is for sure. Yes, it involves a bit of organisation to be sure you have content available on demand, but compared to spending 18 minutes or there abouts of every hour watching adverts, when you are paying for the service as well….it really is worth it.

Yes, I increasingly get the impression that the entertainment offered from RTE et al is offered in quite a

" either take it or leave it sense"

And the same goes for the 2026 100th Anniversary Promotion of broadcasting being slowly amped up.

    Myself I don't give a fu€k.

We gave up owning a TV back almost 20 years ago, back then it was wall to wall house programs, but having to take in an elderly recently we had to get a TV again for their fix. It really feels like no one makes anything interesting anymore.

The BBC seem perpetually stuck in docos about Hilter or the blitz, or reruns of game shows from over thirty years ago. Call My Bluff was on last night!!

The only thing that makes me want to turn it on is a live sports event, or gardeners world.

I used to think that I was a bit of a weirdo for watching Call My Bluff when I was about 11 or 12. It was really just Would I Lie To You with definitions. And not quite as funny (but still funny.) I wouldn't have seen the ones from the 70s that they are showing now.

I only watch rte for the occasion Champions League or Irish national team match. There's nothing else there that really appeals to me. Anything that I might consider giving a watch to there is scuppered by advertisements. 5 minutes of companies shilling their wares, and the government ads warning me about something horrific that could happen kind of puts a dampener on an episode of Kilnaskully from 2007. Streaming has taken over for me and it's been a net positive. Better selection and no ads.

I have to agree but sometimes they do come out with something decent. I'm actually enjoying the Traitors - and it's a half-decent production (IMO). However RTE just can't let a reality series run without a snide culture-wars reference. Katelyn's loose reference to 'Geez I'd burn up if I ever went into a Church' reference in an earlier episode could have easily been cut out. No criticising the lady by saying this as it was just an innocent - no harm intended blurb, but the RTE editing team could have just cut it out because I guarantee you if Katelyn had said Mosque instead of Church it wouldn't have made broadcast.

Careful now, or any negative personal feeling about any religion will be barred from public discourse.

We'll be back to the Bishop and the nighty incident.
