    Hi all,

I have been an Independent Travel Agent for a wee while now and I'm absolutely loving it. I've always had an interest in travel and was always the one searching for a good deal and booking the holidays so when this opportunity came up I jumped at it. I save so much on my own travel and I enjoy getting a good deal for others. This particular business allows me to build my own team of agents and I already have 3 friends who have joined me. It's relatively new in Ireland but is going strong in UK and USA. My question here is how can I get the word out that this opportunity is there?! There will be people who say there's a catch and those people are entitled to their opinion but I have just booked a cruise for myself and partner and saved over €1000 because of travel agent rates. Everyone has family and friends who travel so why not book their travel and get paid for doing it?!.....it's a no brainer as far as I'm concerned. I'm just struggling to advertise and need some ideas please x

With the Internet, most people are booking their own independent travel. Why would someone use a relatively new independent travel agent with no proven track record they when can go through an established high street agent who is ITAA'd with a long standing reputation - I certainly wouldn't. There are hundreds of these operators and many have disappeared into thin air with money taken from unsuspecting travellers, who have been left stranded and nothing booked.

What sort of commission do you charge?

How much does it cost to join your team?

€160 is for your travel agent licence and you have that for life no renewal fees. The for access to the databases that all travel agencies and other databases exclusive to our team it's €57 a month with the first month free. If you don't like it few months down the line or aren't making money on it you can quit. You're not in a contract. I said I would give myself 12 months to see what I thought but I've already made enough to cover a years subscription and my licence fee and more. I'm xxx on Instagram and. Xxxt on FB ☺️ It's not for everyone but I'll happily tell you a bit more about it if you'd like

Some people don't have the time or the inclination to book their own travel. I'm fully TOPP protected and have an IATA number. I don't charge any commission. You don't pay me one cent more than you would booking the travel yourself but you might pay me less. Commission is already included everytime you book a hotel, a flight, accommodation or transfers. The suppliers pay me the commission not the customer. I can email a hotel and ask for an upgrade for you whereas the bigger agencies won't do that. But each to their own. I'm doing a lot of business for being a new Independent agent. I've never heard of these independent travel agents who have disappeared but you may be right. Either way all I'm doing is saving a bucket load on my own travel and making commission from booking for friends and family and new customers instead of their commission going to some faceless agency who won't bother to make sure you have a free breakfast or an upgrade or whatever they can get.

Indeed. However, a general travel tips thread might have value.

Do you even know what a pyramid scheme is?? In a pyramid scheme whether you make money or depends solely on you recruiting more people rather than selling legitimate products or services to customer! That's not what this is. I have a legitimate business. If not one person joined my team I would still have a business. In my ignorance I genuinely believe that everyone who loves to travel should have the chance to do so affordably but as usual there are those backwards who jump on it and shout pyramid scheme without a clue. Luckily the people in my life and the random strangers who I'm booking holidays for are a lot more supportive!
