    3D architecture illustration

I'm curious about the learning curve for people with little to no experience with 3D architecture illustration. I think for those who are new to it, software like SketchUp, Blender, and rxvt seems fairly easy to pick up at first glance in terms of interface and user-friendly aesthetics, but mastering the skill of texturing, lighting and composition seems incredibly difficult. I've gotten the impression that a lot of companies like Geoshot Technologies develop professional illustrations over many years of practice and experience:  3D Architecture Illustrations. I'm also curious if you are a beginner; are you better off simply starting with some light modeling rather than diving headfirst into architectural visualization?
