I'm reading a lot of reports about "microplastics", and apparently its advised to filter your tap water.

Is it expensive to do this?

The filter jugs, the replacement filters, how often they need replacing?

    Best method to approach filtration?

I use a jug filter (Tesco branded). I then transfer the water into my fridge's internal water dispenser container. What I recently noticed was that the container started containing some visible impurities after a while. I'm not sure if they come from the jug filter, and they only appear after a number of days.

Today I just used tap water to see if it happens again.

Boiling the water and then running it through a coffee filter has been discovered to remove the micro plastics, the harder the water the more plastic is removed. So the filters on their own will remove some, they aren't doing much.
