I'm pretty great at R-Type but R-Type 2 is a big step up in bullshit, particularly stage 2... Will be interesting.

Gave this a quick go expecting to destroy that score but only got to 100k. Just hadn't played it in a while so forgot to put the force on my bum in the tight area before the stage 2 boss.

lm officially muck at that game. Haven't even got to first boss.

What's the craic with the beam. I get the lebel 2 spread one ,sometimes I don't ..what's that timing..seems to be after 1-2 seconds after it hits full charge in the yellow . Not sure

The first charge is the normal R-Type charge. After a second or two the second type will charge up, you'll see it as a second yellow bar over the first one. You can't store it though so you have to release it within a short time after it's been charged.

The game takes a lot of practice, the first stage is brutal. But nothing compared to what comes after …

Yeah ok..so it's about 1-2 secs after yellow bar hits full charge ya release button, I'm just not getting in consistently.

Overall I'm not a big fan of the sidescoller shmup that has the mechanic of dying if you hit scenery but side scrolling shmups are my fave .

I think I was mentally scarred as a young lad playing the likes of salamder,nemesis and the likes

Yep that's it, it won't hold that yellow charge indefinitely so you have to time it right. Usually better to just use a normal charge shot and not rely on it.

R-Type 2 is pretty tough. A lot of irem staff on it that ended up with Nazca and the Metal slug team. R-Type is more about memorisation than other shmups but you still have to be pretty good at execution. I prefer the first game as 2 is just brutal right out of the gate.

Yeah its no joke with the difficulty, but it wouldnt be a challenge otherwise.

Unky, you have to learn how to control the orb once you get it. It behaves different if it's attached to you ship, you can also fire it forward as a weapon and it'll move like a shadow, you can also call it back, avoid reattaching, and let it float to the back of you. And then you can call it back to attach your arse. So, takes a bit of practice!

Quick first bash this evening, about 2/3 through level 2.

Not beating anyone yet but it's a start haha

Never beat level 3 on one credit but got to the boss which is probably the best I've done. This stage is insane. Managed to match the top of the leaderboard.

Result.. there's a hidden pot on the chassis here where I'm poking it with a screwdriver ..it's labeled 50-60hz. Turned it and sorted

Good to know if anyone else has issues ( it's a wells Gardner monitor ). It's separate from the usual pots . Didn't know it existed .

It's same feeling you get when you pay your pockets for wallet and it ain't there !

Fix still.mskes no sense to me fluting around with the convergence rings on the neck worked initially . And in the end that sneaky little hidden frequency pot worked .

Also begs the question how did it happen ..and also how did the jamma pin from edge connector just pop out .

Just in case you didn't know, if you have killer instinct 2 for that cabinet it's possible to change it to killer instinct 1 now by burning a set of eprom (and vice versa)

New highscore. Still couldnt get past level 3 boss (and discovered you have x amount of laps before it forces you inside the spaceship!), but got an extra life at 200k and wasted it straight away, blah

I don't know if it old age or what these days but I just can't play rytpe anymore ,controls feel off to me , feel like there is terrible lag, I had the same feeling with in the hunt for years too ,now it's been years since Ive owned the game so can't remember if it was always that iffy.

I have opposite issue . Controls seem too twitchy and fast . That bloody ship moves at the speed of light with I press a direction on the stick

I was going to post something really similar earlier today. Was going to ask is there a certain amount of speed ups people recommend and then avoiding the rest?

Am finding that all the speed power ups accumulated from level 1 begin to be a bit too much half way through level 2. Gets really really twitchy.

Yep, go with what is comfortable as the ship becomes uncontrollable. 3 I think is my peak but 2 is also viable.
