Knocking internal wall

Hi there,

I bought a house and the bedrooms are all quite small. Im considering knocking the wall of one to get an extra 20 inches in the master bedroom. The wall sounds hollow so I think it isnt load bearing.

Wondering what the expected cost should be to knock this wall and build a new partition wall? Do I need to contact a structural engineer to check it out first or would a builder know?

A builder would be able to confirm if it's load bearing or a stud partition, as you say. If it's non load bearing and isn't a timber frame house, the builder could proceed. If it is load bearing, you should get a structural engineer involved.

is the wall // or perpendicular to the direction of the roof trusses.how many stories is the house and where is the room?

A timber stud partition can still be load-bearing, as it may have double header, double sole-piece, be carrying to loading of ceiling joists over, be under struts from the roof.
