Battle of the compact SUV's

    Hey folks, looking for any advice. I am mulling over the following diesel options :

    Peugeot 3008 → 2020–2021 (1.5 BlueHD)

    Hyundai Tucson → 2018 (1.7 CRDi or 1.6 Smartstream (2020–2021)

    Kia Sportage → 2019–2021 (1.6 CRDi MHEV,)

    we have a one year old and second on the way. it'll be a mix of motor way and urban driving.

    My priorities probably look something like :

    reliability , space, fuel efficiency (given that safety is good on all) . I love the look of the 3008, but i am trying not to lean too much into that.

    ANy thoughts greatly appreciated.

    Reliability of the 3008 can be hit or miss.

    Sportage and Tucson are basically the same car underneath the different styling.

    Nissan Qashqai/Renault Kadjar are worth looking at too. They are sister cars also.

    I'd say the Tuscon in at least the 1.7, maybe the 2.0 in a decent spec (get leather - easier to clean with young kids).

    Have spent some time in the 2016 1.7 version and it's a nice place to be.

    Going with diesel for VAT reasons.

    I have a quasqai......never again. I have always been wary of Renaultz not sure I can shake that

    A Renault is less riskier than a Peugeot imo.

    We had a Tucson. Mostly urban driving. It was very poor in efficiency - it was reporting 8.2 lites per 100km. And the added risk of DPF issues if you're using a diesel for short drives. Would you consider electric or hybrid?

    You cannot claim VAT back on petrol or electricity.

    To be fair, you don't buy SUVs for efficiency 🙂 Plus diesels will always be worse around town.

    The OP is saying a mix of motorway and urban driving so that'll help efficiency and the VAT saving will pay for a lot of diesel.

    I still have it. Its 2015 1.5 diesel. There was a slight knocking from the suspension going over ramps at the start, very minor, but its got worse. A pretty load creeking. I had it in and out of the garage and they always claimed they couldnt find the issue - i appreciate thats probably on the garage as much as the car, but its just made me hate it every time i hear a creek. checking it back in to a garage next week.

    Its had electric issues

    potentially have a dpf issue now (not really the cars fault) , which has also triggered the auto start stop not working anymore.
    its jsut a culmination of things that have made me hate it.
