Window regulator and motor

I have a 2016 VW Sharan and the window has stopped going up and down. At first I could hear the motor but now I can't so I suspect that both the motor and the regulator need to be replaced. My normal mechanic doesn't do this and a local independent garage quoted me 650 which seems a lot. I've found someone who's willing to do the fitting if I get the parts. I went on to autodoc but they offer 26 options from different brands for the regulator ranging in price from about 25 - 90.

Is there a way that I can identify what the best quality parts are? I'm assuming that price isn't always the best indicator?

It's more than likely just the regulator.

Price it in motor factors. At least it's easy to bring back if it's wrong.

Me I'd just get the cheapest one, still has to be up to the job and can't be wrong once you pick the right window.

I think I paid 250 or so, supply and fit, for one in Dublin last year. 2012 Octavia .

How can't it be wrong? There could be many different regulator options depending on of there are multiple OEM suppliers at the time, build date, build spec, factory built at etc

You can have two identical cars built the same month with hundreds of parts that are different on them

Because it's a window regulator. Unless you're suggesting that the whole door design is changed depending on which OEM regulator turns up at the factory they all must be the same.

I always buy parts from autodoc,

I just logged on there to check for sharan window regulators, none of the big name brands are there for a regulator, the ridex one is 90 euro, the most expensive , they are autodoc own brand, same as max gear , stark and so on, if I was going to pick a window regulator there out of that list it would be the denckermann one, I think it was 38 euro, for price and I think they are made in Poland.

ridex are usually on the cheaper end so I dunno why they are that price.
not knocking them , I have ridex plus brakes, discs pads, calipers , starter motor on my campervan and they are perfect so far. I wouldn’t put them on my main car tho, but that’s just me.

Possible that a lot of those regulator could be the same but just rebranded.

Believe or not yes the whole door can be different depending on supplier it's a totally normal thing when an OEM has multiple sources for parts

We had a brand new door ordered for a Seat Leon from the dealers for example and while it fit in the hole the bolt locations for the innards etc were different as they had sent the wrong door for that vin

Dont forget wiring loom breaks between the frame and door and be looking at that.

If reg goes extra movement in window will happen.
