Looking for advice on importing a non-roadworthy Austin A90 Westminster

    Hi all,

Last year I moved to Ireland from Italy. Love the country so far! I have an Austin A90 Westminster in Italy that I still need to bring over. The car is from 1956, original Austrian registered. The car is not roadworthy and needs a complete restoration, engine is out. I have some issues finding out what to do and where to go, and whether it is even feasible to bring the car into Ireland. My questions are:

    • What paperwork do I need to provide on entry, probably Dublin port?
    • Where do I need to go with the car after that? I am familiar with NCT etc…, but considering its condition I think that is not applicable until it is restored to a roadworthy condition. So where do I show it to pay VRT, etc…
    • Is it an issue that the engine is out, and in fact already in Ireland?
    • The paperwork is just the invoice of acquisition and the original logbook. (Last updated early eighties…) Is that a problem/complication?

Looking forward to hearing opinions, advice, etc… If this gets very complicated it may be better to just let it go, but given that A90 Westminsters are getting rare, it may be nice to bring it over - but not at any cost.

    Thanks in advance,

    Maarten
