Tesco Home delivery change of policy on substitutions

FYI since July 31st, 2025, Tesco have changed their policy on substitutions and no longer price match. If your item is not available on the day of delivery, they will substitute the item and if the item is less than the original, they will not refund the difference.

In the last week in my delivery , unavailable items have been subbed with 'equivalent' items at more than twice the price - when queried on this, they advised its in their terms and conditions. Just a heads up if you receive substitutions.

thats quite underhanded ……no surprise really. any way to fcku over the consumer is a win for them. just shop elsewhere now if you can.

kinda handy for them - they must have looked at the substitute stats and said " hang on a minute…..we're missing a trick "

That's pretty low. I'd like to hear what the CPCC says about that!

I suspect that they processed the payment at the time that the order was submitted and couldn't be arsed in refunding the difference as it was another step in the process, making a nice slush-fund of 'overs' for HQ in the UK.

Yes the payment is taken day of when your receipt is emailed. But you get full refund if you hand it back to the driver, but this takes 3/5 working days. The items concerned were AAA batteries priced at 6.30 but substitutions were 13.50 - quite the jump.

Hiding behind their terms and conditions.

I contacted CPCC and they advised that since they email your receipt in advance, you know the price 'upfront' and as a consumer, it's up to you to decide whether to purchase or not. I've noticed that since this new policy, substituted items are being replaced with items if a much higher price. Still don't understand why if it's cheaper, they don't refund the difference.

    I still think it's sneaky.
