Getting fibre this Friday from Eir. Circet are installing it.
I want the broadband router to be in the hallway.
wondering can they run the cable in from the apex in to the attic and then drop down to where I want it?

    Anyone do this recently??

Depends on the installer on the day. Some will only go the 1m into the house, others can be more accommodating.

Which fibre network is installing, NBI/OpenEir/SIRO?

Fibre networks have an installation option to run ethernet cable up to 30m (iirc) from the ONT on the day.

This may have to be booked in advance

    thanks for the reply !

    it’s openEIR, it’s for WiFi 6

they said best to install halfway through the house so I’m hoping via attic and down to the hallway table

The ONT doesn't necessarily need to be installed there.

If you can get the router located centrally via ethernet that would do too. This option is called FTTH data port extension.

If ordered at the front end or by the end-user the open eir technician will install the FTTH data port extension up to 30m from the NTU that may be nearer a power socket or more convenient to end user in some way (open eir will not be extending the ONT into the premises)

The FTTH data port extension should be requested up front when the operator places an order

The open eir technician will only tack the extension cable on to a wall and will not put cable under carpet or floor

The FTTH data port extension is considered to be part of internal wiring and is owned by the end-user after that - the RAP standard connection demarcation point is the ONT. open eir will not be responsible for maintenance for any equipment or internal wiring beyond the ONT demarcation point
