    Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help—I'm having a couple of issues using online mapping sites for historical research.

    Archaeology.ie – Missing Images

I'm particularly interested in the site SL031-067 – Cross-inscribed stone at Carrownaleck, but I can’t seem to view the images that are listed as attachments on the site:

    SL031-067---_01.JPG (Cross-inscribed stone)

SL031-067---_02.JPG (Close-up of the incised symbols)

    SL031-067---_03.JPG (Set upright, in profile)

I’m fairly sure I was able to view these images in the past. Has something changed with the site, or is there a workaround?

Down Survey Website – Map Layering Issues

I’m also having trouble with the Down Survey of Ireland website. I remember being able to click on a modern townland, overlay it with the 1650s maps, and get details of land ownership pre- and post-Cromwell. But I can’t seem to get that functionality working anymore.

I’m using a mobile device—could that be the issue? Any advice on how to navigate or enable those features would be really appreciated

I never felt at ease with the TCD / Down Survey website, it 'seemed' to be changing periodically i.e. what worked for me in the past did not work on a future visit. I use Firefox/laptop. I can navigate to a 'name' in the DS and get the usual red circle locations, but when I try to zoom in they vanish. Also, definition seems to be disimproved.

It's a pity that the site is so clunky as it is a great project and resource.

I have a certain amount of sympathy for sites like the DS/TCD project, having to keep pace with upgrades. But they should be clear and simply state that particular browsers MUST be used. Annoying but realistic. A large Semi-State is now using just Microsoft Edge (and you can go stuff yourself if you want anything else!).
