first car for learner

Looking for a car for my brother learning to drive. The budget is around 2000 euros for the car.

Any recommendations??

Automatic would be a plus

€2000 is a tiny budget for an automatic. All you’ll really get is a 25 year old Yaris or Micra

Now that I think of it I do actually have a 2008 automatic Polo with no tax or NCT that I took as a trade in if you are interested

Auto would be a big negative if your learning to drive as you won't get a full license if doing your test in one.

You get a full driving license for what you have done the test for. If you do a test for automatic, you get a driving license for automatic. It is a FULL driving license for that transmission.

Considering all EV's are automatic and there are plenty of automatic options on almost every model of ICE cars, it is of little consequence these days that you have a license for auto gearbox only.

If the driver has any fears, auto gearbox is the best option to build confidence.

If at some point in the future they suddenly find they need a license for a car with gears, then they can apply to have that test at that point. But for now, go full auto and get the test.

He could. It has a coolant leak no one can seem to find and has a roughish idle after the the older brother took it for week.

Other than that it drives prefect. Hasn't caused any major issues since new

my first car had so many leaks i was topping up oil and coolant weekly an checking it constantly, i bought what i thought was a better car and the engine caught fire ha ha, we had to leave the car and leg it.

Cars aren't always perfect but they can get us from a to b

i think it is best to keep what he has access to get the test done and go from there
