Looking for some advice on what to look for as the next motor.

    Main requirements:

Needs to have legroom for the passenger (if possible some sort of leg support would be good)

    Comfy seats for long journeys

    Decent power

    Decent reliability

    Petrol or hybrid

    Preferably <5k

I currently have an E39 and due to its age it's developing some issues that means it's getting work done every month, and the seats have lost their comfort a good while ago.

Due to ailing health I need comfort for the passenger.

I'm open to most body types but the ms kiddums would prefer something taller, but not a deal breaker.

I'm struggling to think of anything that ticks all the boxes. Anyone got any suggestions on what I should be watching out for?

Big old Citroën saloon/hatchback C5 would be my pick for comfort, reliability might be a lottery.

For reliability you could look towards Toyota Camry or an older Lexus. Will have to go way back years but should be newer than your e39 no problem.

Budget is tight enough for the type of car you're looking for.

Is a standard car like a Corolla out of the question, you have really emphasised comfort in your post

Passenger comfort. As long as there's space for them to stretch out legs (they're short so not a huge ask), and the seats are as comfortable as possible (or at least more so than the E39 seats).

I'm not opposed to basic cars if they tick the other boxes.

I didn't think the requirements were that big, I just can't figure out how to factor in seat comfort and leg room into searches.

If budget is a huge hurdle for this, what would be a budget that would start to give me options for all the requirements?

Your budget is a bit weak but a Lexus RX450h would suit all yout requirements. I had one with 500k km and its still one of my favourite cars to date.
