EI40R. I heard this flight pass over the house (South Dublin) a few minutes ago. Sounded rough, like an ATR, and it was pretty low. Seems to be returning to Dublin now.

it was so unusual, that it caused me to look up. Didn’t sound right at all. Buzzing like an ATR but obviously, much bigger and lower. Wonder what happened to it?

Scary for those on board, flying so low in land, as to circle round to get back to airport

It was a bird strike, The aircraft climbed to 4000 feet so not quite white-knuckle territory.

Not neccesarily. The customers may not have noticed the birdtrike, and only heard "we have a technical problem and we are returning to Dublin"

I actually heard the aircraft from my house just after takeoff and I thought it was a prop type until I saw it - the engine sound was distinctly different! I see that EI-DEJ has since departed as EI406, so at least the pax get to Rome tonight and tomorrow's return can operate as ususal.
