we grew spuds in a few cheap trugs* this year; they did alright, we lifted them, and on a whim i took a few spuds and put them back in the trugs with some refreshed soil. should i expect much? do they prefer cooler spring weather to sprout?

there's nothing to lose with this experiment, we've no other real use for the trugs (which i drilled holes in for drainage).

*i have grown to hate those woven plastic growbags a lot of places sell for growing spuds and the like. usually within one growing season, the plastic gets really brittle from UV damage and you get little bits of plastic blowing around your garden. we saw some cheap trugs in mr. price and used those instead.

I've been thinking about trying this for a while actually but haven't gotten around to it - if you're using your own seed, seemingly you need to leave them in the ground to develop a harder skin first and also put them into a fridge for a while:
