Job Offer Local Authority

    Hi all,

I've a job offer from a local authority (executive engineer) and I have some questions if any of you could answer please.

    Background:

My partner & I are looking to get mortgage approved and hoping to get a house soon. (early twenties)

She has left the private sector to work as an Executive Officer in the civil service. She loves it and it's a big plus going for a mortgage as it's a steady job with a salary of around €43k currently with a standard hours flexi time and good holiday's.

I work for a fairly large private company and earn €67k working around 52hours a week but it's extremely flexible and little supervision as the work gets done.

The job offer I have is around €60k but with more holidays and less hours. My partner tells me that I need to know that supervision is high with regard to clocking in/out system and other stuff like holidays have to be applied for weeks in advance? Is this true or is it only for office staff?.

Currently I do not have a clock in/our system and I can take any leave days I want to without any real notice.

Is the local authority and civil service very time oriented? And not by workload? Which is not what I currently do.

    TIA

There are core hours which you have to be there for. The opportunity to build up Flexitime is invaluable without affecting your annual leave.

Getting leave isn't usually an issue

    I'm in the civil service
