central heating upgrade advice

    Hi,

I am looking to do some upgrades to some old pluming (late 70s to early 80s). I have attached a picture of the current setup.

    1. The system is an open-loop system with expansion tank in the attic. Should this be converted to a closed loop system?
    2. The circulation pump is located in the hot press beside the cylinder (physically to top-left of the cylinder). The heating was also inside the house but the plan is to move this outside (have to decide Gas or Oil yet), should the circulation pump be also moved outside?
    3. Why are both coils in the cylinder connected to the central heating? I think I understand the coil on the left it would be the heating coil but I don't understand why the coil on the right is connected.
    4. I notice there is no dyson valve going to the cylinder, presumably that means once the heating is on, the circulating pump is also on which would mean there is no automatic control for heating the cylinder water? I have noticed in other heating systems also that once the time turns on the heating for rooms etc the hot water always comes on, I don't fully understand why that is.

    Thanks for any advice

    Mike
