    Hi

Im.replacing this door and wondering should I insulate the concrete floor inside the porch ? Could anything be done with the pillar .

The draft makes it way in upstairs ( above the door currently )

not much point given that its unheated and the massive thermal bridge from the concrete roof slab

Hi, is there anyway to help this space..

Would digging up the concrete floor inside the porch & insulating it offer much benefit?

The concrete slab roof could insulating board underneath it do anything or what about lifting the carpet and insulating between rafters on the stairs that is above that slab.

No ideas on the pillars 😅

I want to do away with the 2nd door inside the porch but dont want to make the downstairs an ice box

No, it's pointless to insulate that unheated space which is full of thermal bridges.

Your best option is to install a very good internal door and leave the porch as a weather break.

Losing the 2nd internal door( original front door of the house ) isn't really an option it seems so ill have to rethink based on keeping 2 doors.

Excuse my ignorance around thermal bridging ...

Could I get a very good porch door & and leave the 2nd internal door ( maybe with new seal) as its original feature of the house.?

Or is it a case I need the door at the opening of the house to be the better door ?

You can insulate the slab roof on top, its just hard to get any kind of nice finish there.

A modern front door will insulate much better than the one you have for sure. It wont ever be warm in that porch but it can be made considerably less cold.

Floor slab is an issue. If you don't want to dig it up, you can get insulating tile boards and put them down on slab then tile on top. Will raise your floor level though.

Or else knock the whole porch and start again properly !

There is a long hallway behind that 2nd original door in the image... that leads to open plan kitchen with no other internal doors !

What I might do is get a triple glazed glass porch door & sand and reseal the 2nd door leave it as a feature.

Main bug bear is having to unlock 2 doors to get it !

Your best option is to focus on the internal door, not the porch door. treat the internal door as the ACTUAL front door. if you stop the draughts there, you stop them getting into the house from this location. get a decent composite door with a good air tightness rating.

Leave the external porch door as is, and no need to lock it, just lock the internal door.

and get yourself a wall hung post box, tape up that door one.
