Headphones activating Google Assistant?

I need some assistance with an issue thats been plague-ing me for afew weeks now! Everytime I have headphones in my phone the Google assistant comes on, I go to switch it off but then another message comes up says its available to use and to switch it on again! Its so annoying! Im thinking the headphone socket is damaged…
