Replacing roof felt

Not many ask whether refelting your roof could be DIY job, so here we go.
Before putting solar PV on roof of my 50s built house I need to replace completely shot bitumen felt under concrete tiles.

Plan is to put LR membrane with battens and counter battens on to ventilate above membrane. And vent strips at eaves and ridge level.
With the right tools and scaffold (all can be hired) it doesn't appear to be insurmountably hard. (Other than the obvious risk falling down two floor) or am I missing something?
DIY has added benefit i have access to rafters from outside to improve rafter level insulation for warm attic.
and finally the mounting for solar.

i post this in another thread today, just fyi re the material

we got our flat roof over the garage done last yr - the chap used " IKO ULTRA GOLD 20 ".

but what he used was top grade i believe.

the torch on rolls are very heavy themselves, and i believe the product itself is of a very good quality and standard. Looks the job on too.

Go for it. I did exactly this when roofing my shed a few years ago. Very straight forward job. I had a handy little book on roofing but the same info is available all over web

Also consider a glass fiber roof. More expensive but easy enough to do and should last at least 30 years.

thanks. Main pitched roof of the house , so no torch on or fibreglass.
As I want to use batten and counter batten, my side of the semiD will be 50mm higher than the neighbour, but I’m thinking a gradual increase across 2 rafters (300 spacing) won’t be too noticeable.
anyone any guidance how many and which fixings for the 50mm battens above the membrane (on top and in line with rafters) ?

Sorry I don't think I was the only one to mix up felt under tiles with flat roof felt. Perhaps sarking would be a better term.

yeah. sorry for that. Want to replace the existing sarking felt.

Maybe I shouldn’t have typed the post while walking the dog..

Only thing I'd want before starting is a few spare tiles for ones you break. Or at the very least to know that I could get suitable replacements if I did break any. You may find that some of the nailed tiles break when you try to get the nails out. Also I'd be using copper or stainless steel nails when putting the tiles back. Roofers often only nail every third tile I'd nail everyone because with copper nails you get a bit of a moss killer effect from the copper leaching down the roof.

thanks a lot. Yeah they are marly RD807051 so should be ok to get replacements. A good few are damaged from what I can see.

I don't think you'll get new replacements but someone on DoneDeal etc should have some.
