    Hi,

    I need to add a new socket in a room, I had a look around the attic and the fusebox, and it all seem quite simple.

    Here's the fusebox:

    The plan is to add it in the space on the right.

    And here's my shopping list:

    The only thing I can't find on Screwfix is the busbar, I'll just have to get it from somewhere else.

    How does the rest look?

    Should that not be done by a certified electrician and signed off by them?

    Firstly, you shouldn't be playing about in the distribution board.

    Secondly, if adding a new socket in a room unless the current circuit is overloaded you should keep all sockets on the same breaker for that room or rooms.

    Thirdly, is the wall you want to add the socket on solid or stud? If it's stud you can use a dry lining back box for a neater job.

    You should be using 2.5mm² twin and earth not flex to wire a new socket tapping it off one of the existing sockets. You should use conduit behind the wall for the cable but you might get away with surface mount trunking but looks sloppy. Kill power isolate and work safely.

    You can do the work in italics yourself, if you go into the distribution box you need a REC(Registered Electrical Contractor).

    All good points, I knew the cable was wrong, I thought I could get away with the right thickness. But everything else can't be changed, it's mounted on a solid wall, without any other socket in the room, it will need to be done with trunking in the corner up to the attic.

    I could T off a socket in the next room, breakers are not one per room anyways.

    But I'll definitely need an electrician to wire the gates and the garage in a few months. I could wait and do it all together.

    Any good electrician in Offaly?
