When/how to declare cohabitation

My partner moved into my house a few months ago as IPAS were going to send her to Buncrana. She wasn't my partner at the time but things have and are continuing to work out really well. She's been looking for work but as an asylum seeker being unable to drive and the language barrier she's found it difficult to find work. We're recently an item but at which point do we have to declare that we're cohabiting and will she still be able to claim her jobseekers while she goes to college to learn english?

As soon as her living circumstances changed, she should have declared the change to DSP. She signed a declaration when making a claim which states that any change of circumstances must be declared as soon as possible.

Whether she qualifies for payment going forward will depend on your income or circumstances.

    Hi Gipi,

Thanks very much for getting back to me. Yes soon as she moved in we changed her address and let social services know she was living with me. As soon as she moved in, does that mean we're effectively in a co-habiting relationship or is that the equivalent of a civil partnership?

    Thanks!

You are her co habitant as far as SW are concerned.
It’s a moot point because asylum seekers are not entitled to apply for Jobseekers.
She won’t have any income from SW.

And, no, this is not the equivalent of a civil partnership.

(Civll partnership in Ireland is basically the same thing as marriage, but for same-sex couples. Since marriage equality, same-sex couples have no longer been able to enter into civil partnerships. Opposite-sex couples could never enter into civil partnerships.)

She only gets jobseekers when she gets status to remain.

When 5 months here she can apply for a work permit and can then study or work.

She gets no payment from ipas if not living in a centre.

Be careful about declaring her as cohabitant as that kicks off legal implications on your property.

Also consider that's she's just using you to get out of an asylum centre and as a meal ticket.

The OP was a single mother separating from her child's father a few years back, so this would appear to be a same-sex relationship.

All your points still apply, of course. Assuming this thread isn't entirely made up. I have my doubts, tbh.

Ye they also said they were moving back to Australia with their 4 year old a few year back, also wanted to adopt a 32yr old person as well, so I wouldn't be putting any faith that any of this is genuine.

Says "I'm not living in my house at the moment due to family illness....currently living in Galway, offered room to rent elsewhere due to child schooling"

"My" house must not mean own or would hardly need to rent room. Could sell buy or rent out to fund a different rental
