I see Alicia Silverstone is listed in the top cast but isn’t in the trailers that I could see. IRL she’s a well-known environmental activist, so that could be fun.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Tis a remake of a great Korean film called save the green planet that's worth checking out.

Absolutely nothing wrong with her. Have no idea why you think she might be a crack pot.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go chew some food and spit it into my child's mouth to feed him like a bird.

ha ! I love Clueless, but her and the other main actress must have gone through some things together, as the both turned out a bit 'different'

Quite enjoyed this one. It’s been many, many years since I watched Save The Green Planet (an old boards film forum favourite) so I can’t comment too comprehensively on that til a rewatch, but from my recollection this seems like a creative building on that film’s premise - with an added layer of contemporary despair added to the top of its satirical mix.

It’s close to being maybe Lanthimos’ most accessible film (barring maybe The Favourite), despite the trademark brutal shocks or moments of outrageous violence. But it works as a decent, pacy thriller, albeit with typically askew camera direction (Robbie Ryan is a dab hand at creating Lanthimos unease), surreal flourishes and an unapologetically bleak and blackly comic tone. Great use of Green Day, unexpectedly.

Plemmons exudes a nervous mania, with a character seemingly capable of anything as he fails to deal with the **** hand life has dealt him. Stone is pure icy confidence, in a purposefully hard to read performance. But special shout out to Aidan Delbis. The role he’s given could’ve been a disaster if not handled properly, but I think the film correctly treats him as the moral centre of the film - a kind-hearted, vulnerable person being actively manipulated by the most important (possibly even the only) person left in his life.

Well that was predictably bonkers...I don't think it is quite as successful as some of his other films but that is a very high bar for me.

Plemons and Stone are both also brilliant as usual.

Loved this. Plemons and Stone were incredible. Much more nuanced than I was expecting.

Must be getting old as I went to sleep during this. Looked nice and thought Stone was the standout but it wasn't for me. 1/5

I'm normally hit & miss with this director, the stilted language & acting in some of his previous put me off.

This however is a straight up conspiracy based thriller that I'd compare loosely to Cloverfield Lane.

Stone & Plemons are very good here, it starts slow enough but raises the tension sufficiently in the later half.

    3.5 Stars

    Bugonia – 9/10

One of the best films I’ve seen this year. Quite possibly Jesse Plemons best so far and Emma Stone continues to prove she is an otherworldly talent.

    It’s dark, it’s funny, it’s creepy, it’s empathetic, it’s shocking… it’s Lanthimos.

Go and see it before someone ruins it for you. It deserves your support.

Mental film. Saw it on my own midweek one evening in an almost empty Vue Liffey Valley (love it empty). It drew me in and held my full attention for the entire film. 8/10, let down slightly by the ending, in my view. One of the best films of the year though, no doubt. Go and see it.

Liked it rather than loved it. The cast was brilliant, the tension and pacing were great, but for me - and I know it never hid its origins - it hewed too closely to the original, in the end particularly. I feel it might have worked a little better if it was more its own thing.

Really enjoyed this. The performances are brilliant and the look of the film and how it's shot is brilliant (shout out to Robbie Ryan's cinematography).

Excellent movie. Not as abstract as I expected actually, and the performances are really just terrific.

Jessie Plemmons really establishing himself as one of the finest actors out there.

I'd highly recommend people see it in the cinema. There isn't a boring moment in the entire runtime, it's incredibly compelling.

Watched this. Acting was great, as would be expected from Stone and Plemons. But I thought the film was a whole pile of poo in terms of entertainment. I stuck with it and watched it to the end hoping there would be some payoff. But there wasn't for me.

I love these surrealist comedies. Other good ones were - Memoria - more surrealist drama, and Kinds of Kindness - surrealist comedy.
