I believe that BBC decided to upgrade their signal to HD and STBs updated themselves. However Humax boxes did not update the frequency change, (or something like that). So I tried to rescan the channels. I got an error message "post code invalid" and refused to scan.

After the unit refused to recognise the post code I was using (BT1), I decided it was a clever idea to do a factory reset. Now somewhere along the line I have lost the signal (possibly jolted the dish mount while hanging on to ladder for dear life.

So, my question is: Do you have to have a signal from the Satellite (Astra 2) before the unit will recognise a post code and allow channel scanning?

In defence of my stupidy, after reaching 70 the brain gets a bit fuzzy.

    Thanks in advance

    T

If you LOOK underneath the box it should give you the model number and can you quote that as box may be old.

The answer to your question is YES. For post code you should enter the full version.

And the humax would have updated automatically as its freesat but you need a strong signal so dish may have moved or lnb needs replacing.

The knowledge being out there did not surprise me, but the speed of the reply has.

The information answers my question exactly.

Although it is frowned upon to ask the questions without first attempting resolving the issue oneself, I could have saved myself nearly a day and limping up a ladder (only ten, but painful rungs).

If and when I have need to contact Boards again, I'll take the short route and beg forgiveness.

In my case "OP" is not original post, but Auld Pensioner.

    Many, many thanks
