Help, please? What am I supposed to be doing?

" Point phone up "? Which bit of the phone?

" Point it round at the sky ' Bloody Tesco driver came down the track, as I was wandering in circles, phone in the air!

Can't make out a Thing on the screen, due to daylight. Dash indoors and it's saying, 'Some Hope!'

What's wrong with my bit of sky, Elon?! How do we Do this, please? 😐

    Thanks.

With the Starlink app opened and standing at the location you will be mounting the Starlink dish, point your camera at the sky and move it around. Once complete the app will return the result.

All the Starlink dishes around my area point in a S to SW direction.

    So it says, @The_Cush.

I've just gone to the middle of a meadow. Nothing about or above me but clear, blue skies.

Reported I'd be hopeless. Something is not right, here.

Mate from UK gave me his Garmin whatever they are. Find places with it?

I ran through a few sets of batteries, trying to get it to find a satellite. Been in the drawer for years.

I'm an old man. Officially. Pensioner. My camera lives in its drawer. I shout to call centre bots, on this. I Need my computer back.

See? Is it me? Or, could the skies, over my spot of Leitrim teach Israel a thing or two?

    Seriously ..…

    Local Bermuda triangle?

See if you can borrow a grandkid with a phone, they'll sort you out .

    " Local Bermuda Triangle "

Damn! 😬 I wouldn't be so straight faced, if it wasn't for that Garmin 😕

Yeah. A youngster. Ye know, I honestly don't know if there's any round here!

I'll try to rope in my neighbor. I'll also try the Selfie looking routine, in town, tomorrow.

If I don't get knocked down, or arrested, I'll report back.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Garmin will only find GPS-type satellites, won't 'find' Starlink satellites…

    Not your ornery onager

    Thing is, @Esel , the Garmin couldn't find a Garmin satellite 😐

I mean, I Do happen to live just in the rim of a natural land basin?

But, unless they're firing their signals at me, from a prone position, halfway round the world? I can't see how they can't get me.

    I Need help, lads 😬

Anyone here in, or really familiar with South Leitrim? My local town has the usual Main St. Big, towering houses either side.

I never even tried for a link there. I'd just have looked such an idiot! I also guessed, as my meadow wasn't clear enough.…?

Did try a couple of spots though. Edge of town. Alright, there was a church in view. But, come on!

Then, on the way home, I got my mate to pull over at a gateway. It just looked a nice, clear spot. Though, there Is a hill, with tall trees, to west.

That's where it happened. Every Where else, I got " Frequent Distruptions ". Like a little list of what I won't get.

Here, my mate was holding up traffic and so I was freaking out. Rushed. But, as I jumped in the jeep, it was sat, " One Percent… " 😳

*Never* got That before! WHY? Why there? Anyone might know the area, I can even tell ye exactly where that gate is.

But, yeah, new input. Now, I need someone who can make head or tail of it, please 🙏

From here https://starlink.sx/ (only works on a laptop), I dropped the home marker on South Leitrim:

    image.png

So you would definitely need a clear sight of the South-Western, Southern and South-Eastern sky to see the satellites as they fly past. An occasional tree or church wont make much difference unless it is on top of the dish, and even saying that, I had a line of trees 20m to the north of my dish and they barely registered as obstructions.

    @ItHurtsWhenIP Now we're talking! 👍

Can I just pop in, here, for anyone trying to follow; I'm on my phone. Extremely not used to it and keep losing entire posts! 😬 Thus I may ramble, or SBT.

IP, Can't make out the map, on this thing. I'm using the app, when roaming Leitrim, looking a prat.

Does that mean anything, I wonder? Can't try your laptop thing here, because I have no computer coverage.

I'm sort of thinking two ways. Neither are less than practical impossibilities; 1. A youngster. 2. My neighbor, on my roof, waving my phone around! 😧

There's Got to be another way.

I can't understand why the app isn't working for you.

What mobile are you using, how old?

@The Cush Redmi 12c. How old? Dunno. Seems like since time. Absolutely Vile bloody thing!

I'm thinking: If we have someone With it? (Star thing) I'd be fascinated to hear their story.

Remember, I only just think I've got the 'camera' pointing bit half right.

Jesus Christ! I was about to ask if there's a video? Cost me all my phone bandwidth to watch 😬

Anyone else using the app, please?

@ItHurtsWhenIP ; That thing ye used on ye laptop? I used something similar, on my computer, when I connected (I was a Good fella)

I fed it my post code. Your one take a post code?

Only, mine had three options; Available. Or less so. I got Available.

But, I don't remember that, what appears to be a compass thing, I think I can make out on ye pic, above.

I can pm ye my code, to try that thing with it. But, either way, My app keeps saying No.

" Constant Interruptions" or something very similar, my app says.

    Every where but that gateway.

The site I linked to is not affiliated with Starlink. I didn't give it an eircode, I just dropped the marker on a piece of South Leitrim. I suspect you may have used the Plus Code, which is what I needed to give Starlink when I signed up.

I was intending to place my dish on a flat roof using the supplied ground mount. So when I did the coverage check, I got up on the flat roof and lay down, held the phone in front of my face and did the coverage check there. It was fairly simple and straightforward.

Don't bother going to other locations to see if they have coverage, you won't be placing your dish there.

Your phone is not that old, so it should be fine. The phone I used to check my coverage three years ago was much older (at the time).

    @ItHurtsWhenIP Recap;

    1. Went to neighbor. Not in. Couldn't ask for help.
    2. Tried up there anyway, as that's higher ground. No good.
    3. Kicked and reinstalled app. Tried, up there. Nope.
    4. Tried down here, again. No.

Short of literally paying some one to hop on my roof, I'm approaching the end of my wits.

Didn't mean to send that, yet!

Yes, I try it elsewhere because, if it works in Leitrim, I'd love to hit a spot where I can find it.

I would Like to have some one else try it on their own phone, eg.

Even question if my phone is dirty! (Cleaned it)

I just want to get back on line.

    Now I mean to send!
