Opened Gearbox plug instead of Oil Sump

Ok bear with me. I am very, very dumb for doing this. I took the plastic off underneath and looked and the plug was staring at me and opened it and half a cup of oil came out. I said to myself what the hell and realised I opened the wrong plug. The car is a 2021 and nobody ever opened the gearbox sump plug. Why did so little come out? It's a manual. The car hasn't been driven since. The container I used to catch the oil was dirty with soil and other stuff from being left outside so I couldn't reuse it.

As I said roughly a small bit less than half a cup came out. Would gearbox oil be still in the gearbox or would it all have suppose to have been in the gearbox near the plug?

It's not my car it's my sisters so I feel completely stupid for doing this.

Did you open the plug for filling the oil rather than the one for emptying the oil

No it was the drain. I best get some gearbox oil and fill'er up.

I'm just a bit confused that so little came out maybe it was a good thing I opened it as we would never be any wiser that there was so little gearbox oil in there. It not like an automatic gearbox(afaik) where the oil can stay in side the gearbox in a manual it all falls to the bottom so there was very little gearbox oil in this gearbox.

I am right about that? Regarding all the gearbox oil would have drained as soon as I opened the gearbox oil drain plug?

what make of car is it? Year?

There should be more in there, but as you didn't open the top plug, it may be slow to drain.

Do not drive it until you replace the oil.

A lad I worked with drained the gearbox oil and thought it was the engine oil he had drained, added 4 litres of oil to the engine and drove on, gearbox seized after about an hour
