Can new build costs be reckoned roughly using SCSI rebuild costs?

Obviously engaging a professional like a quantity surveyor once a clearer idea of what is envisioned is preferable but are the figures on that calculator close to ballpark correct for standalone new house build costs on a cleared site? Should a multiplier like .8 or 1.2 for example be used?
